Yuri Quintana is the Director for Education and Informatics for the International Outreach Program at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where he directs several global e-Health projects, including the Cure4Kids project, a medical education and collaboration Web site dedicated to the optimal treatment of children with catastrophic illnesses used in over 150 countries. Quintana has an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and computer science and master's and doctoral degrees in systems design engineering, all from the University of Waterloo in Canada. Prior to coming to St. Jude, Quintana was a faculty member at the University of Western Ontario in the Library and Information Science program, and a member of the HEALNet Canadian Research Centre of Excellence on Evidence-based Medicine. Quintana has developed several Internet-based medical education systems for doctors and consumers, including an online breast cancer education system for the Canadian Cancer Society. He has organized and chaired several conferences in interactive media, served as director of the New Media Lab, and mentored and supervised graduate students in the area of interactive media and consumer health. Quintana previously worked for IBM Canada Limited in research, development and high-tech manufacturing positions and was the first graduate student research fellow with the company. Quintana also worked for Watcom Inc. where many of the early computer programming languages were developed. Quintana's current focus is on research and development of Internet technologies that empower consumers and doctors to communicate, learn and collaborate on a worldwide basis.
