I am a professional journalist, serving as editor ([1]) of Philanthropy News Digest (http://foundationcenter.org/pnd), a service of the Foundation Center ([2]) in New York City. PND is a daily online publication that publishes abstracts of the news of philanthropy and charity in the United States. In addition, we publish original content such as commentary by leaders of foundations and charities. I have been part of PND since 2005.

For approximately a decade before that, I was the senior reporter with The NonProfit Times ([3]), a national trade journal covering the U.S. nonprofit sector, with a particular emphasis on business management, nonprofit law, fundraising, and direct marketing. I was responsible for the NPT 100 special report, which includes the publication's list of the 100 largest charities in the country, ranked in terms of total revenue. For two years, I served as a senior fellow with The Fourth Estate and the Third Sector program (information on program) when the program was held at the University of Mississippi, training mid-career journalists on how to cover the sector.

In addition to my expertise in matters of U.S. philanthropy, I have also written numerous articles on baseball, law, science, technology, arts and culture, Ireland, Scottish clans and culture, and many other fields. I am an alumnus of Lafayette College, where I majored in English, minored in education, and had a concentration in mathematics. I also attended Trinity College in Dublin, studying Irish culture and literature.
