James is a graduate of Carleton University holding a Bachelor of Arts in history. Adding to his ongoing love of history, James holds a strong interest in pre-hospital emergency care contributing countless hours to volunteer work with St. John Ambulance in Ottawa.

Current projects include: learning the Linux operating system (Ubuntu specifically) and contributing to the open-source community; examination of the role and involvement of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in the First World War--The Battle of the Somme particularly; and study of the settlement pattern of the Ottawa area and the geographical development of the city's demographics and physical layout.
