Currently only occasionally active on Citizendium. Got married on 10 December. Minimizing time behind PC now to be with wife (who, as it should be for a proper Hasidic Jew, does not use the internet...). --Daniel Breslauer 01:03, 31 December 2007 (CST)

Why did I abandon Wikipedia?

I was previously a Wikipedia editor, and left because of the following reasons:

  • Abusive POV-pushing by anonymous editors (ie, using a username, but not their real name) on Judaism- and Israel-related topics. Editors relenting to personal attacks and wars in order to get other editors blocked from editing Wikipedia.
  • Editors constantly interfering in topics which are not their fields of expertise. I maintain that editors should only edit articles related to their field of expertise. For example, since I am an Orthodox Jew, I am not editing articles about Christianity, simply because that is not my field of expertise. And since I am quite familiar with medicine, I edit medicine-related articles, but I do not edit articles about, let's say, the Chinese language. If everybody would just stick to whatever subject he is familiar with, these projects have a chance of succeeding. To me this seems logical; to many on Wikipedia, it does not.

Opposed to Anonimity

I am also opposed to the anonimity Wikipedia offers its editors. Even Citizendium should be more careful. When people are forced to operate under their real names, they are much less likely to show abusive or otherwise unacceptable behavior.
