Brief Bio:
I am currently a PhD student in Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. My areas of interest and research include:
- Latin America: Especially Brazil, Cuba, and El Salvador
- Development, Globalization, and Modernity: I read a lot of social theory and case studies in these fields.
- Technology: I am currently researching Open Source and Open Content projects in Brazil. I am especially interested in the ways in which digital media usage among "socially excluded" populations does not always adhere to the expectations of "experts."
- Ethnography: Both as a methodology and as a "way of knowing" the world. I am especially interested in the use of ethnographic research to understand the problems of postcolonial politics and knowledge.
