Daniel studied Mathematics at Cambridge University, receiving a first class BA and MA degree with honours. He then became interested in Artificial Intelligence, gaining an M.Sc. with distinction from Edinburgh University, followed by a Ph.D. in Informatics (which was nominated for a British Computer Society Distinguished Dissertation Award). He has worked as a freelance statistical consultant and as a software developer in the computer games industry. He also writes an occasional science column for The Scotsman newspaper. In 2005 he co-founded ThinkTank Mathematics Ltd, a mathematics and AI consultancy / development company. He is 30, and lives in Edinburgh with his wife Rebecca.
